POE “Termokos” JSC held a public presentation today at the premises of the Municipal Assembly of Prishtina, unveiling the “Master Plan for the Expansion of the Heating Network” within the framework of the “Solar 4Kosovo II” project.

The Chief Executive Officer of POE “Termokos” JSC, Mr. Fisnik Osmani, thanked the team of experts for their tireless efforts in drafting the master plan. He emphasized the project’s importance for the citizens and expressed his satisfaction with the strong interest shown by those present. Chief Osmani recalled that the expansion of the heating network in 6 new neighbourhoods with around 38.000 residents was one of the main commitments that, together with Mayor Rama, they had presented to the citizens of Prishtina.

The Mayor of Prishtina, Mr. Përparim Rama, praised the project’s progress so far and emphasised its importance in the green transition.

The project will primarily help promote the quality of the green transition by contributing to mitigation of climate change. The new thermal power plant and the expanded district heating network will reduce heating-related CO2 emissions, improve air quality, and integrate the supply of renewable energy into Prishtina’s district heating system,” said Mayor Rama. He emphasized that this project will serve the residents of neighbourhoods not connected to the district heating system, who are currently using other heating alternatives that are much more expensive and harmful to the environment.

Speaking about the neighbourhoods where the heating network will be expanded under this master plan, Mayor Rama pointed out that additional neighbourhoods including “Kodra e Trimave” and “Kolovica” as well as the full coverage of Prishtina divided into 11 zones, will be reviewed in a separate plan set to be presented in June.

The international expert from the consulting company “IC-Ces”, Mr. Felix Eckert presented technical details of the master plan. He explained that during its drafting process, 17 neighbourhoods with 1,926 buildings having a high pollution potential of 116,216 tons of CO2, were treated. Finally, based on ranking criteria and key factors, 6 neighbourhoods with 199 buildings were selected.

As outlined in the master plan, the heating network will be expanded to the neighbourhoods: “Lakrishte”, “Tophane”, two zones of the “Kalabria” neighbourhood, part of Prishtina’s old city, and part of the “Mahalla e Muhaxherëve” neighbourhood.

Among other details, he also presented other aspects of the “Solar 4Kosovo II” project, which will supply heat to 38,000 new consumers using clean solar energy of 44 GWh per year, solar collectors covering 63,000 m², and a seasonal heat storage of 380,000 m³.

During the final part of the presentation, many attending citizens asked questions, expressing their strong interest and gratitude for the opportunity being offered to connect to the heating system.
