"SOLAR 4 KOSOVO II" PROJECT

About the project

The "Solar 4 Kosovo II" project is one of the largest energy projects in Kosovo. This will be one of the largest solar plants in Europe and the first in the region by capacity, which will utilize clean solar energy for heating energy production.

Clean energy for Pristina

Through the installation of solar panels in an area of 63 thousand square meters, two systems will be integrated: solar energy with cogeneration, which will enable an additional thermal capacity of 50 MW.

This project will enable heating supply for 8,600 families with about 38 thousand new consumers of NP "Termokos". The implementation of this project will enable the expansion of the heating network for residential buildings in the following neighborhoods:

  • Tophane
  • Kalabria
  • Lakrishte
  • Muhaxher neighborhood
  • Old Pristina

As part of the "Solar 4 Kosovo II" project, the construction of a heat energy reservoir with a capacity of 400 thousand cubic meters is planned near the solar plant.

Besides providing quality heating for 38 thousand new consumers, this project will also have an impact on reducing air pollution for the capital's residents, as it will eliminate the need for using alternative heating methods in the operating areas.

"Solar 4 Kosovo II" is considered one of the largest investments in Pristina within the EBRD's green cities initiative.

Project Funding

The "Solar 4 Kosovo II" project will be financed by:

  • German Government through the German Development Bank (KfW) in the amount of 53.1 million euros, of which:
    • 21.5 million euros grant
    • 31.6 million euros loan
  • EBRD with 23.2 million euros loan
  • Termokos with 4.4 million euros

Total project value: 80.7 million euros

The project is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Public Enterprise Termokos, and the Municipality of Pristina.
